Special-purpose parachute system "Lesnik-3"
парашютная система Лесник 3

The "Лесник-3" special-purpose parachute system is designed for parachute descending of paratroopers with full sets of necessary equipment from aircraft and helicopters having nominal descent equipment.
The system makes it possible to perform parachute jumps to confined landing sites located at the altitudes up to 7100 m above the sea level and land on them with fine precision.
The "Лесник-3" parachute system has successfully passed through the interagency acceptance tests and has been put into operation.
The "Лесник-3" high reliability and ease of operation make it possible to use it both for beginners' training and for performing special missions.
The "Лесник-3" parachute system is a dual parachute system with main and reserve canopies. Both parachutes are located in one backpack and having a common harness. The main and reserve parachutes are similar gliding canopies of 27 m2 each. The "Лесник-3" parachute system functions in a cascading scheme, similar to production-run parachutes Д-5, Д-6 and "Лесник-2" (Lesnik-2). The first to function is the stabilizing parachute. The descent with this parachute lasts for the time preset in the ППКУ (PPKU) safety instrument or until manual opening of the main parachute. Full inflation of the canopy requires no assistance of the paratrooper. To reduce the aerodynamic drag, the stabilizing parachute will collapse upon inflation of the main parachute. The front risers of the main parachute have trim tabs used during descent. The parachute design guarantees its stable operation in all modes. The canopy is easy to steer. The field of view is unobstructed at descent. The parachute descent is stable, without swinging and collapse tendency even at high turbulence. Landing is soft, with powerful flare.

Performance characteristics:

Maximum flight weight, kg - 150
Parachute system weight, kg, not more than - 18
Overall dimensions of packed parachute system:
-length, mm - 615…630
-width, mm - 395…410
-height, mm - 205…225
Range of operating air temperatures at zero attitudes +-35oС.
Descent rate at a paratrooper's flight weight of 100 kgm/s, not more than - 4.6
Horizontal gliding speed, m/s, at least - 11
Time for 360°-turn of the parachute system, s,not more than - 8
Minimum safe-operation altitude:
- - for the reserve parachute system, m - 150 (provided immediate deployment of the parachute at the flight speed of 180 m/s; the time of descent with fully inflated reserve parachute is 10 s)
- - for the main parachute system, m - 400 (provided the deployment is after the 5-s stabilized descent; the time of descent with fully inflated main parachute is 20 s)
Lifetime of the main and reserve parachute systems, years - 10
Lifetime of the harness with the backpack, years (with running repairs) - 5
Assigned operating time, flight operations:
- main parachute - 400
- reserve parachute - 10
The "Лесник-3" parachute system favourably compares with production-run items Д10, По17, ПТЛ72 and ПСН90 in relation to ergonomic characteristics and technical aesthetics, and also needs minimum paratrooper's participation in parachute deployment.
The main parachute system may be made in any colour.
The "Лесник-3" parachute system is compatible both with the current СПП-2 (SPP-2) equipment for the paratrooper/fireman and with the newer set, СПП-3 (SPP-3), which may be delivered in complete with the parachute system.
