"Арбалет-1" (Arbalet-1) special-purpose parachute system

The system is designed for parachute jumps to be performed by parachutist-specialists of special-purpose teams and pararescue men with sets of necessary equipment and weapons, as well as for training jumps from the Аn-2, Аn-26, Аn-12, IL-76 aircraft and the Mi-8 helicopters both equipped for parachute landing force and having incomplete sets of aerial-delivery equipment required for automatic deployment of man-carrying parachutes).
The system makes it possible to perform safe parachute jumps with the equipped parachutist's flight weight up to 150 kg within the range of air temperatures at zero altitudes from -35 ^oC to +35^oC at the aircraft's flight speeds during parachute descending up to 350 km/h.
The "Арбалет-1" parachute system has passed successfully through the State Test Program in the RF MoD flight test center and is in operation now.
The "Арбалет-1" parachute system is a dual parachute system with similar main and reserve canopies. Both parachutes are located in one backpack and having a common harness. The main and reserve parachutes are similar ram air 9-cell canopies of 27 m² each.
There are two ways for main parachute deployment.
- with the soft pilot chute from a pocket arranged on the lower flap of the backpack;
- with the 1.5 m² stabilizing parachute during jumps with a cargo container.
Reserve parachute deployment can be done manually with the manual opening link, automatically with the ППК-У-165АД (PPK-U-165AD) unit, as well as mechanically at release of the main parachute risers.
The parachute system can be easily adjusted directly on a parachutist of any height from 160 to 200 cm who wears both the winter or summer gear and special equipment.
The harness design makes it possible to suspend up to 50 kg of additional equipment (payload) in a special payload container having an autonomous parachute system, УГКПС-50 (UGKPS-50).
The harness has 8 adjustment points.
